As Reported In USA TODAY:
The most common strain of bacteria in dental plaque can cause blood clots that induce heart attacks when they escape into the blood stream.  People with periodontal disease have an infection that causes chronic inflammation of the gums.  This is a path for the bacteria to enter the bloodstream.  A recent study describes the association between heart disease and gum disease to be at least as strong as the linkage of heart disease to cholesterol, body weight, and smoking.

FACT :

diamond.gif (133 bytes) More than half of all people over 18 years old have at least the early stages of periodontal disease.  After the age of 35 years old, 3 out of 4 people are affected to some degree.  Periodontal disease is an infection that destroys the gum surrounding your teeth and destroys the supporting bone that holds your teeth in place.  By keeping regular dental check-ups and having a good home care system, you help increase your chances for a long and happy life.
